The Bigodi Women’s Group:
BWG is an indigenous Community Based Organization (CBO) of women in Bigodi and Busiriba Parishes. The group was formed with the following objectives:
1) To bring out/ foster development of the community through entrepreneurship activities like handicrafts, farming and customer service
2) Reduce poverty by increasing household income for the group and other community members in general
3) Community sensitization on new income generating activities, which promote conservation of the environment.
4) Promotion of both formal and informal education, particularly the woman and her girl child.
5) Ensuring healthy bodies by promoting the growing and consumption of foods that provide a balanced diet
Current activities of BWG:
Production and sale of handicrafts such as baskets and recycled paper products, both locally and abroad (export).
Managing a tourist canteen and crafts shop in Kibale National Park.
Selling handicrafts at the KAFRED visitors center (out let).
Development and management of a Nursery school in Bigodi.
Farming of vegetables by individual members.
Education and conservation awareness building.
Creating natural dye and material gardens at a homestead level.
Operating a grocery shop in Bigodi.
Capacity building of members through training in product development and marketing.
